The GROW Model is a simple and effective tool that we always recommend people who are new coaching to use. GROW is a model to use during a coaching conversation to give your conversation a structure and flow. Below are some questions you can use for the GROW Model.
G - GOAL
What are you working towards?
What would you like to achieve?
Describe the best possible outcome?
R - REALITY
Where are you now?
What is working well?
Where do you face challenges?
O - OPTIONS
What ideas do you have?
What would you do if resources were no concern?
W - WILL
Which idea is your favourite?
What action will you take?
How likely are you to do that?
When using coaching techniques it is always a good idea to delve beyond the surface level and go deeper into the person's internal world. At any time during the GROW model process you could use these questions to help you go deeper:
- How do you feel about that?
- What thoughts are coming up for you right now?
- How does that link to your values?
- What assumptions are you making?
